Re-Work

Human body stem
workshops

The workshops are aimed getting students moving, learning about our bodies and how they work. With a background in Exercise Physiology, Physical Rehabilitation and Physical Education, Ben is uniquely qualified for these sessions.

Programs are expected to run for a half day and can be completed outdoors or indoors in an open space.

All equipment is provided.  Workshops are limited to a single class of around 30 students. Specific topics will be negotiated directly with the teacher. There are more activities available if students manage to complete everything, and support for teachers to complete any activities that ran long.

Movement fundamentals

WORKSHOP R-3

In this workshop we play games, complete physical challenges and do some simple body measurements (not body weight).

The focus is on moving and having fun, while learning about the essentials of life and how our bodies work. Specific topics are negotiated with the teacher prior to the session.

Body Knowledge

WORKSHOP 3-6

This workshop is based around practical activities, with a variety of concepts covered along the way. We measure six different things, including lung volume, heart rate and cardiovascular health (via a walk). We review how the body works, what is essential for life and what being healthy means.

Exercise Science

WORKSHOP 3-6

This program is an extension of Body Knowledge offering an opportunity to explore concepts in more detail and complete a boader range of tests. There is more of a focus on exercise/sports (as compared to health). Includes fitness, reaction time, speed and power tests.

Human Science

WORKSHOP 5-9

This workshop looks deeper into specific topics explored in Body Knowledge. For example, we revisit lung volume and heart rate, but add in calculations and predictions. We look at the nervous system, including sensory tricks and examine vision. We also compare two different strength tests and graph the results.

Biomechanics

WORKSHOP 5-9

Fancy name for some easy to understand concepts. We look at two simple joints (knee, elbow) and the muscles that move them. We measure joint range of motion (knee, elbow and spine) and health related flexibility.
